Mishca's Maths

At lunchtime I worked out a maths problem on the board and how to solve.

" If there are 10 girls and 20 boys, then 2 mums come along and then 3 dads come along - How many all together?"

                                                                              --- 30     ---5
Answer=  10 + 20 + 2 + 3 =   35

I was very proud how I figured it out by adding it all together.

Kia Ora all

Today we began our 'Oaklands School Information Report' for the Kingswood Junior School pupils in England. With Mr McAven we brainstormed sub headings. These included teachers, sport, subjects, uniform, playgrounds and school history.

We then chose one and brainstormed the key words for it. From that we are going to expand these into full sentences to complete a paragraph.

Here are some photos of what we did.

Kia Ora all

Today was a busy day.

We kicked off our information report unit with an activity where we looked at 10 different information reports and identified the key features. From this we have developed our criteria for writing a successful information report.

Here are some pictures.

Mathletics

A large number of certificates were handed out today, covering the holidays and the first two weeks of school. A special congratulations to Andrei who received 4 certificates.

Today at the Kauri assembly Kendra received the mathletics trophy for Room 5. There is now one trophy for each class. Students will have the trophy for one week. Here is a proud Kendra.

RESPECT award recipient

Congratulations to the awesome Thorvin on being selected as the Room 5 choice for a student who consistently displays the respect values we identified as a class. Thorvin excels in two examples of respect: Respecting other students' right to learn, and being kind and helpful.

Well done. Thorvin.

Monday 12th May

Today we did buddy reading with Room 19. They came to us in the afternoon. We haven't seen them for a while so we spent a few minutes going over the buddy reading programme.
Room 19 has two new students, Chloe and Aidan (who is Noah's brother).

Here we are doing buddy reading - outside enjoying the sunshine.

Kia Ora all

Today we launched our term 2 integrated learning unit. Rooms 5,6 and 25 met in Room 5 where the teachers gave a short presentation of what are going to do.

Here is a picture of Mrs GH sharing ideas about students designing a future classroom or school.

And here is a photo of the board showing the timeline of activities and events.

Congratulations to MATINA who ranked 82nd out of 100 for New Zealand students on mathletics yesterday. Well done, Matina - keep up the awesome learning.

ANZAC Day assembly

Yesterday we held a short ANZAC Day ceremony at the whole school assembly. As part of that, Joel and Kendra carried and placed 2 wreaths that Room 5 made. This is a feature of ANZAC ceremonies so it was something we wanted to include. Well done to Joel and Kendra who did a wonderful job.
